MSNBC is reporting that during a training exercise Sunday at Bellows Air Force Base in Hawaii, a helicopter went down carrying 22 people and killing one U.S. Marine. In a statement the Marine Corp said that a 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit MV-22 Osprey was carrying 22 people when it sustained a mishap hard landing while on a training mission. There was no cause for the accident given. Originally, the Marines stated that 12 Marines were injured in the incident.
Once the death of one Marine was confirmed, the Corp stated that the other 21 on board had been transported to the hospital to have injuries assessed and treated. The unit is from California and based at Camp Pendleton. They were in Hawaii for training exercises. The name of the Marine killed has not been released at this time.
