A serious, however humorous, event took place Sunday when New Jersey police faced off against a drunk who, while attempting to walk home bit an officer. Police report that 25-year-old Jennifer Loughlin was heavily intoxicated as she approached officers near her home in Aberdeen, NJ. The police were responding to a brawl when they found Loughlin and around 10 to 15 other people.
According to the New York Daily News, Loughlin was just a few steps away from her residence when officers approached the scene. She was described as heavily intoxicated, disorderly, and uncooperative. For her safety and the safety of others, the officers attempted to place her into custody. Apparently, after being cuffed, Loughlin opened her mouth and bit down on officer Jessica McDougall’s arm.
Police say the suspect refused to let go at first, but was finally transported to the Aberdeen police station. She was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Officer McDougall was taken to a local hospital and was treated for her injury. Loughlin was released from jail after her $15,000 bail was paid. New Jersey Police will likely take further precautions in order to not fear bites from walking drunks in the future.
