The Gilmore Girls revival cast list keeps growing. Liza Weil is the latest to jump on board, with the actress confirming the news and following up with a few statements about filming. Weil played the character of Paris Geller, Rory Gilmore’s one-of-a-kind nemesis turned close friend who she spent most of her high school and college years with, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The 38-year-old revealed that filming started on Tuesday, February 9, the same day of the week the crew used to work during the series’ original run from 2000-2007. Reprising her old Gilmore Girls role was, Weil gushed, akin to being in a “really magical perfect time machine,” especially when it came to reading the scripts. She will not star in all four 90-minute episodes entitled, Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, but will still see plenty of screen time having been cast in two of the episodes. Unfortunately for fans, Weil did not reveal which two she will appear in, but merely stated that she had read the scripts for the episodes.
The actress admits she was nervous when it came to reviving Paris’s character, but went on to express that going through Amy-Sherman Palladino’s scripts felt like meeting an old friend again, and that she had been unaware of how much she missed playing that role. When asked whether her on-screen love interest Danny Strong will be joining her or not, Weil says she is unsure.
Her post-Gilmore Girls career boasts 20+ credits, mostly other TV series and some film roles. In 2014, however, she received her biggest break since starring in the 2013 comedy-drama Bunheads, alongside fellow Gilmore alumni Kelly Bishop, and 2012’s Scandal. Weil currently portrays Bonnie Winterbottom in the smash ABC crime drama How to Get Away With Murder, an award-winning series for which actress Viola Davis has taken home several Emmys and been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Weil joins The Good Wife actor Matt Czuchry as the latest former Gilmore Girls stars to join the project, with the actor confirming his news earlier this weekend. Tanc Sade, who played Australian party boy Finn on the beloved WB show for the final two seasons, announced his return, leading most to believe that Logan Huntzberger would also be attending. These three join the already confirmed lineup of Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Yanic Truesdale, and Keiko Agena.
Filming for the reboot began on Tuesday, February 2. There is no word yet on a release date for the first of the four episodes. All four will be broadcast exclusively on Netflix.
Even though Danny Strong’s schedule is quite busy with his extremely successful FOX show Empire, he confessed a few months ago that he would be more than willing to join a Gilmore Girls revival. Now that his former co-star Liza Weil has gotten on board, do you think he will also join the cast? Sound off below to let us know your thoughts!
