On Feb. 12, 2016, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins kick started their newest campaign, You Are Not Alone. In a post on Facebook, Ackles acknowledges that he is proud to be working with his friend, Collins (who he works with on The CW show Supernatural) on a cause that was inspired by their fans and followers. The You Are Not Alone campaign is an effort to raise money for a cause from the ground on up. Money raised will be used to set up a platform which will be known as the SPNFamily Crisis Support Network.
According to the fundraising page on Creation Stands, the money for this support network is being raised through a partnership of Random Acts, To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) and IMAlive. The goal of the campaign is to raise money which will be used to form a “fan-led community support system” which will see trained fans helping out others who are suffering from depression, addiction and thoughts of self-injury.
The funds raised from the You Are Not Alone campaign will be used to develop a community based platform to offer support. These funds will also be used to train fans who volunteer and are eligible in order to be crisis responders. The money will also be used in order to get fans who are in crisis the help they need within their community
In their personal message on the You Are Not Alone campaign page, they start out by thanking the fans for being with them for the past 10 years. They say that the thing that they love the most about the fans of Supernatural is the fact that they bring a sense of community to their fandom. They continue by saying that they are extremely appreciative to have the fans in their lives and that they want those same fans to know that they are alone.
It should come as no surprise to fans of both Ackles and Collins that they would start the You Are Not Alone campaign, since both actors have been involved in a number of fundraisers to raise awareness and support for mental health issues. Both actors have previously supported their fellow costar, Jared Padalecki, with his own fundraising endeavors for his Always Keep Fighting Campaign. Now it would seem that the men are taking things a step further and creating their very own support network from infancy.
Fans looking to support the You Are Not Alone campaign, can purchase shirts or a bag which will see proceeds going towards setting up this community based support network. Interested fans can also contact Random Acts to find out how they can volunteer to help as well.
