The hockey community is reeling after news that Oliver “Butch” Mousseaux, a WCHA/NCAA hockey referee, has died. On March 18, while preparing for a game between Ferris State and Michigan Tech as part of the WCHA Final Five tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mousseaux tripped on the ice. He was in the process of warming up before the game and was not wearing a helmet. He was rushed to Mercy Health St. Mary’s Hospital and was listed as being in critical condition.
According to Fox17, Mousseaux was placed into a medically induced coma and the hockey community learned that he had died Friday. TBoston College Hockey News and Michigan Tech Hockey both took to Twitter saying that they were saddened that Mousseaux had passed away and that he would be missed.
