It is no secret that the transfer window has not been a success for Arsenal FC so far this summer. It seems like nothing have been going their way. Ever since the top scorer of last season, Jamie Vardy, declined the offer to join the London-based club, the transfers have been on a constant standby with nothing but rumors. However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. As a direct response to the injury that will keep veteran Per Mertesacker at the sideline for five months, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal is indeed looking for a defender.
The best player to join Arsenal FC at the moment would be the German international and Valencia player Shkodran Mustafi. Not only would Mustafi be a direct replacement, according to iSportsWeb, over the next few years he could potentially become one of the best defenders in all of Europe. At only 24-years of age, Mustafi already has quite an amount of experience, which is exactly what Arsenal is looking for, replacing their experienced captain. Despite his young age, his resume is definitely not one of the worst looking. Having won the World Cup in Brazil with the German squad and scoring the first goal for the German side in the 2016 Euro while replacing an injured Mats Hummels, he has already become of international interest. As a player, Mustafi has shown that he is able to quickly adapt to new leagues in Europe and take leadership. This was proved in the 2013/2014 season, when he became player of the year for Sampdoria in the Italian Serie A. As this was not enough, Mustafi is already familiar with the English clubs and their way of playing from his time playing for Everton FC.
Known for his pace and his ability to read the game, Mustafi is exactly what Arsenal FC needs. Especially the pace might be a vital weapon for them in the next season, something that Mertesacker has never been famous for. This suddenly means that Mustafi, together with Laurent Koscielny, would be able to keep up with even the fastest attackers of the Premier League, which would get rid of some of the problems, that the Gunners have been facing the last few years.
No great player comes free of charge and Shkodran Mustafi is no exception. According to The Sun, the release clause in his current contract for the Valencia is £42,1 million. However it is possible that Arsenal will be able to persuade Valencia into selling him for £25,3 million, according to The Telegraph and another £8,4 million in add-ons due to financial fair-play problems for the Spanish team. It will for sure not be easy, but it seems like Arsenal FC is going for it, and this is by far the greatest news in a long time for the Gunners’ fans. An agreement is expected within the next few days, if everything goes according to the plan. For more CDA News, follow our tweets on Twitter and like us on Facebook.
