On Friday, a man from Cheyenne, Wyoming, Logan Hunter Rogers, 23, was arrested on charges of manslaughter in connection with the death of a missing 13-month-old baby boy, Silas Anthony Ojeda, whose body is believed to be somewhere in a landfill located in Ault, Colorado. Authorities in Colorado plan to search for the boy’s body on Monday.
According to FOX News, authorities in Wyoming filed a manslaughter charge against Rogers on Friday. Capt. Linda Gesell of the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office said that the missing baby boy has been identified as being Silas Anthony Ojeda.
The sheriff’s office in Cheyenne said in a statement that Rogers had been scheduled to appear in court on Friday on charges reckless child endangerment and manslaughter. After Rogers spoke with detectives assigned to the case, though, Capt. Gesell said that the hearing was cancelled.
She added, according to WTOP, that at this time, Rogers does not have an attorney, and that no other arrests have been made in the case. CBS Denver reported that Gesell said the missing baby’s mother is currently in the hospital, and declined comment.
Though the sheriff’s office did not comment on any possible relationship that Rogers might have had with the missing baby boy, CBS Denver has identified Rogers as being “the boyfriend of the child’s mother.” Richard Ojeda, the grandfather of the missing boy, was the person who initially reported on Wednesday that the boy was missing. He did so after the baby’s mother said that Saturday was the last time she had seen her young son.
According to FOX News, “an unidentified person at the boy’s home” told authorities that Silas Anthony Ojeda was dead. The person reportedly added that the baby’s body had been dumped. The person went on to say the location of the body dump was in a trash can at a local community college. When investigators contacted the sanitation company responsible for disposing of trash at the community college, they were told the waste was taken to a landfill in Ault, Colorado. WTOP reported that the landfill is one that is “private.”
Rogers remains in custody, according to CBS Denver. The mother of the missing baby boy “claimed that her boyfriend, Rogers, had given the child to a man named Santiago who was going to take him fishing.” Wyoming police officers said that the mother of the baby was unable to give them Santiago’s last name or tell them where his residence was located.
Investigators said that Rogers was the only person with the baby when he died. Also, at least initially, Rogers told the authorities he was the person who had dumped the body of the missing baby “at the Laramie County Community College campus.”
Wyoming man, Logan Hunter Rogers, 23, was arrested on charges of manslaughter in connection with the death of a missing 13-month-old baby boy, Silas Anthony Ojeda. He or somebody he knows allegedly took the body of the dead baby to Laramie County Community College and threw the body into a trash container there. A cadaver dog, according to CBS Denver, “hit” on the vehicle the missing and presumed dead baby was allegedly in. Investigators will begin searching a private landfill in Ault, Colorado, on Monday, for the body of the missing baby.
