In an apparent murder-suicide on Friday, three adults and one infant were found shot dead at a Hampton Inn hotel room in Fairbanks, Alaska. The police have since confirmed that the gunman was McKay Hutton, 22. According to a statement released by Fairbanks police, the motive remains unknown.
FOX News reported that police in Fairbanks, in a preliminary investigation, have identified that the gunman was McKay Hutton, and his three victims were Linda Hutton, 54, Emily McDonald, 22, and, Teagan Hutton, who was just eight weeks old. According to the Washington Post, on Friday, staff at at the Hampton Inn alerted Fairbanks police and fire departments about the incident.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man, sitting in a hallway on the second-floor, crying. The man, who is not a suspect in the case, directed the police officers to the hotel room where the four bodies were found.
McDonald’s Facebook page indicated that she and McKay Hutton “were married a year ago.” The deceased infant appears to be the couple’s daughter. According to People, the pair are also shown in photos with a little boy. However, the relation of the boy to the married couple is unknown at this time.
People reported that McKay gushed about his wife on his Facebook page, saying that he was “lucky” to have found her and TJ, possibly referring to their daughter. McKay wrote that he would never be complete without them at his side and went on to thank them for being in his life.
McKay Hutton also shared a post about defending the Second Amendment on his Facebook page. He posted “a photo of himself standing in front of a ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ flag.”
The Fairbanks, Alaska police department said all of the victims “had gunshot wounds.” The police said nothing points to alcohol or drugs being involved in the tragic incident. According to the Washington Post, the police recovered a “single firearm.”
In an interview with the Fairbanks News Miner, an officer said there is still a lot that is unknown about the case at this time. Therefore, they are not in a position to discuss possible scenarios of what might have happened. Instead, they will wait until they can gather more information and piece together what transpired.
The police in Fairbanks, Alaska said that other details about the shooter and a possible motive are “still under investigation.” The Washington Post reported that there would be autopsies done on all of the victims “on Monday.”
