For most kids, this holiday season their Christmas wish is for a new toy or an iPad, but a three-year-old Arizona boy wanted a family. On Tuesday, the toddler, Michael got his wish!
This is without a doubt this year’s Christmas “Feel Good Story!” A photo taken of Michael, by his new sister, 17-year-old Dea Brown, of Michael’s reaction to getting adopted in Phoenix, Arizona has gone viral, reports ABC News.
Michael spent more than two years in the State’s foster care system before being adopted Michael was placed with Tara Montgomery. He had been living with the family for more than a year.
“Michael was placed with us on Feb. 14, 2015, when he was 18 months old. We were his third foster family,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery adds that the systems original plan for Michael was to reunite him with his birth mother. That plan fell through and Michael lived with two foster families before going to live with the Montgomery’s. Tara Montgomery, who is a single parent, says she was not looking to adopt when she took Michael in. Montgomery has three daughters — ages 23, 17 and 16, reports The Grand Island Independent.
The photo of Michael’s reaction to his adoption becoming official in an Arizona court has taken the internet by storm. Dea Brown posted the photo to her Twitter account and the photo has been retweeted over 56,000 times. Michael’s story has since been picked up by media across the United States.
In the viral photo, Michael gives a fist pump and a big smile. In other photos, Michael poses with his new mom and sisters. One of his sisters was also adopted, reports KTLA.
Brown says that Michael was “super-shy” when he was first placed with the family in February of 2015, but adds that he quickly opened up and bonded with the family.
Montgomery says the photo captures his personality. She adds that she and her family are happy to have Michael in their lives. She told Arizona’s KPHO that Michael was “just what her family needed.”
Montgomery says that once Michael was with them for a while something just clicked and the family couldn’t imagine their lives without Michael in them. The viral photos show Michael is just as happy to be part of this family as they are to have him. There is no doubt that this Arizona family will have a very special Christmas this year.
