The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to head into the divisional round of the playoffs. It may not be a position they could have predicted a year ago. The story was different for Dallas. Last season the Cowboys wrapped up the year with a record of 4-12.
They dropped their final four games of the season, and the playoffs were not even relevant. Dallas went 4-12 on the year. Since then the tides have turned for the Cowboys, they are a transformed team.
Dallas went from being at the bottom of the standings, to being at the top. The Cowboys finished off their season with the best record of the NFC East, going 13-3, and one of the best records in the league. The only team that won more games were the New England Patriots.
The Cowboys went from a losing team, to a winning team. They are among a few teams who’s franchises took a drastic turn this season. Among one of the other teams were the Miami Dolphins, who just had their season end as the Steelers eliminated them in the Wild Card game.
The difference between the Dolphins and the Cowboys is that Dallas has a one-way ticket to the postseason. It requires many tools to reach the playoffs, and the Cowboys have all of them, from new talent to veteran talent. One of their most recognizable new faces is Dak Prescott.
In his rookie year, he got to start for the Dallas Cowboys. Since the Cowboys gave him a shot, he has soared past all expectations. He seems to keep on developing and it might only make sense with veteran Tony Romo teaching him the ins and outs of the game. Other than Romo there may be no better candidate to take the Cowboys into the postseason.
One thing other than Prescott’s skills that has helped the Dallas Cowboys be a top team is their ability to stay healthy. They have suffered few injuries and they will be starting their divisional game on a good note. One of their few missing faces, Morris Claiborne will be returning, according to ESPN.
Claiborne has missed the Cowboys past nine games due to groin injury. He first suffered in injury in late October in the team’s game against the Eagles. Claiborne, who served as their corner back is preparing to return, and in fine fashion.
The timing of his return from a nine game absence could not be much better. The Cowboys first opponent in the playoffs is not expected to be an easy task. They will be playing the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay is playing hard, they just silenced one of the hottest offenses in the league, and handed them in embarrassing loss recently.
When it came to the Packers facing the New York Giants in the Wild Card game, Green Bay overwhelmed them. The Packers blew out the Giants 38-13. They have put together over six consecutive wins. On the other hand, Dallas is coming off a loss the Eagles.
Can the Dallas Cowboys match their regular season success in the postseason? Is a healthy team the most important tool for Dallas? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
