Hostess Brands LLC has issued a voluntary recall for their limited edition Hostess White Peppermint Twinkies due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated following a recall by one of their suppliers, Blommer Chocolate Company. Blommer recalled the confectionary coating used to manufacture the Peppermint Twinkies. The Blommer recall stemmed from a Valley Milk Products recall of milk powder, used in making the confectionary coating, because it may contain Salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The only product affected by this recall is the Hostess White Peppermint Twinkies. The product UPC code is 888109111571. The item was distributed nationwide for resale, and was sold in boxes containing nine Twinkies.
Consumers who have purchased this Hostess product are encouraged to discontinue use to safeguard against Salmonella infection. For a full refund, return the unused portion to the original place of purchase. Those who have additional questions or concerns may contact the company by calling 800-483-7253 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT, Monday – Friday.
