Nicole Perlman, who is one of the cowriters for the Captain Marvel script is a name that many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are probably familiar with. Some of her previous work includes writing the first draft for Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as various other projects within the MCU. However, with how much excitement there is for the first female led Marvel movie, it makes sense that Perlman would be more than happy to talk about Captain Marvel.
During a recent interview, it would seem that the writer addressed one particular concern that people have had about the casting of Brie Larson as the titular hero of the film. According to Cinema Blend, it seems that people have questioned the actress’ age.
In the interview, Nicole Perlman explained that she actually spoke to the Air Force in order to make sure they were being relatively accurate in terms of how they are doing things. The writer said that when she brought up the issue of age, she was told that it is not outside “the realm of possibility” for an individual in the Air Force to be very accomplished between the ages of 28 and 34. In fact, they said that a person really could go very far in that span of time.
Nicole Perlman concluded from speaking with the Air Force that in reality there should really be no issues with age for Captain Marvel. She also pointed out that by the time they actually begin filming the movie and of course when it comes out in theaters, Brie Larson will be older than she was when the casting announcement was first made.
Not only has the Air Force said that it is possible for someone to be of a certain age and still be quite accomplished, but by the time Captain Marvel hits theaters, it will have already been some time since the original announcement. Of course, age should not really be an issue anyway since there have been plenty of times when actors and actresses have played characters of a certain age, even when they themselves are older or younger. In fact, all it takes is looking at Spider-Man for an example of this, as Andrew Garfield was portraying a high school student, even though he was already in his thirties at the time. By the time Captain Marvel arrives in theaters in March of 2019, Brie Larson will be 29-years-old, so one would think her age would no longer be of concern for fans.
What do you think of the fact that there is concern about Brie Larson’s age when it comes to her taking on the role of Captain Marvel? Are you surprised that the writer for the film spoke to the Air Force in order to get answers for the fans? Tell us what you think of the casting and age concerns in the comments below.
