Tuesday night’s game was no ordinary game for Dirk Nowitzki. It was a special game. He became a member of a unique club by the time the clock ran out, adding on to his legacy.
Over the course of his career, Nowitzki has been a top of the line shooter. He has been one of the best for his team, the Mavericks. His talent goes way beyond just what he has done for Dallas.
Nowitzki has drained a lot of points over the years. He has now officially established himself into one of the best scorers ever. Last night was a game that could not have been much bigger for Dirk Nowitzki. He watched his 30,000th point entering through the top of the basket, according to NBA.
He is now a member of the 30,000 point club. There are only five other players that have reached the same milestone. For Nowitzki, there could be many more milestones ahead for him to achieve, he is still playing. His career is not over yet.
He has done it countless times over his career, and he did it again yesterday, he delivered for the Mavericks. He put up a remarkable performances in the Mavericks game against the Lakers yesterday.
It was not a slow process for him to get going either. He made his first six shots against the Lakers team. By the end of the first quarter, he already drained 18 points. As the game wrapped up the Mavericks walked away with a 122-111 win over the Lakers, and one particularly happy player.
Mavericks coach spoke after the game saying that everyone just witnessed an amazing accomplishment in sports. “For me, it was a 13-minute, 2-second microcosm of one of the greatest careers in the history of this game — meticulous preparation, total commitment, unbelievable competitive spirit and a real flair for the moment.” He also said that anyone who had watched Nowitzki play the last few days knew there was no doubt he would hit the milestone point in this game.
There may be many more long shots to come out of Nowitzki. After draining his 30,000th he gave a look of what is ahead in his future. His very next shot was a three-pointer. As Dirk just hit his special milestone, the Mavericks play has been up as of late.
Dallas has put together three consecutive wins, over the Grizzlies, Thunder, and most recently Lakers. Right now the Mavericks are going 27-36 on the season. They still have some work to do as they sit 10th place of the Western Conference, but with Nowitzski on their team, they may have no better guy to help them transform their losing record to a winning one.
Could a three-point milestone be next for Dirk? Can the Mavericks continue winning games? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
