Jason Pierre Paul may have found his new home for the next several years. He is not expected to be making a trip though, he will be with New York. Reports are saying that he just signed a deal with the Giants team.
A deal involving Pierre Paul heading to New York would add some additional fire to the Giants defense. He might be getting paid well to play for the Giants as well. New York and Jason Pierre Paul agreed on a four-year deal, according to ESPN.
The defensive end may be set to make some bank in his new deal. Last month the Giants tagged Pierre Paul as their franchise player, calling for a one-year contract worth almost $17 million. He could be making more this time around.
Their new deal allows the Giants to relieve their salary cap a little. They were only $3.9 million under their cap as of Friday. Making some space would be beneficial for New York. It was something that needed to happen for New York, they were among one of the top teams with the least amount of money in their cap space.
There were only two teams in the league that had less cap room. Those teams were the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions. Along with creating some flexibility with their finances, the Giants just added some security in to their roster.
Pierre Paul made one thing clear recently. He was not looking to sign a short-term deal. He said after the Giants season-ending loss to the Packers that he was not looking for a single year contract.
Despite undergoing sports hernia surgery recently he believed that he had proven himself to the team. He said that he has not only proven that, he has shown it. He said that there is not another player in the league like him doing what he does with seven and a half fingers. He could have just received that long-term deal he was in search of.
He may have lost one of his fingers, but the Giants just revealed three things. They revealed their faith in Paul, his ability despite his hand injury, and their willingness to add defense to their team. The Giants are serious.
On Friday Pierre Paul shut down rumors of an inked deal with the Giants. He took to twitter saying “I ain’t signed nothing” He may of just signed something since then. New York had a disappointing ending to their season last year, but with some new faces on their team this off-season, next season could end on a better note.
Is Jason Pierre Paul still very effective? What else should the Giants try to add to their team this off-season? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
