Microsoft has just announced a series of updates to Xbox One, which includes beam streaming, a simpler interface, and the ability to upload a custom image for gamerpic. The store, deals for Xbox Live Gold members, and games are now all easy to navigate. Music playback control is now included within the Guide.
Tech Crunch notes that the video game console’s new features are designed around ensuring gamers stream more often. The update can be viewed as an effort to push Beam, which Microsoft bought in 2016. The Seattle-based live streaming video platform is a Twitch rival built around offering new means for audiences to interact with streamers. The Windows company clearly sees this Xbox One update as an opportunity to bring the popularity of video game streaming back within its own domain.
In the Activity Feed, Redmond is adding the ability to pin posts to the top of the feed, hide individual posts, and filter posts by games, friends, or Clubs. The redesigned interface is aimed at speed above all else. It is now faster to perform more than a few actions, such as finding a group to join.
PC Magazine notes that capturing gameplay on Xbox One will now be much easier through more options like GameDVR menu. Videos and screenshots can be captured with a single button press. The simplified user interface will help improve performance while simultaneously offering more ways to dive deeper into the community.
Microsoft’s major Xbox One update starting Wednesday echoes some of the major changes coming to Windows OS. Streaming via the tech giant’s own Twitch rival Beam is a new big addition, as well as a fresh user experience made up of a new design for improvements to Home, Guide, and more.
Engadget notes that the Guide should also now be much quicker. Xbox One’s revamped Guide promises faster access to game recording, background music controls, and recent apps. A few tweaks are built with a focus on multitasking, such as a Cortana make over that puts the digital assistant into an overlay that will not disrupt what a user is doing, and a fresh achievement tracker.
The update includes Copilot feature, which allows two controllers to act as one. Navigator and Magnifier have also been enhanced. The software giant’s video game console has a new parental control feature that supports screen time restrictions just like Windows 10 operating system offers.
After all the hype, Microsoft finally rolled out Xbox One’s big spring software update to everyone. The biggest additions are the revamped Guide, the new dashboard, and the Beam streaming offering. The platform may not feel like a brand new system but it is clearly getting a breath of fresh air. The tech giant said that it is talking with third-party developers about fresh interactive features for the streaming service that may be introduced later this year.
