The fourth season of The Originals is set to debut on March 17 and with its return, Executive Producer Michael Narducci is previewing the season and what viewers can expect to see from the series. While most fans are already aware that there will be a five-year time jump, it would seem that the story will not be about the past and what has happened over the five years that took place between the end of season three and the start of season four. Instead, it looks like the story will be about moving forward and how much New Orleans and the supernatural community have changed in that time period.
In the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Michael Narducci delves into how the series shifts itself moving forward following the five-year time jump. When The Originals picks up, it has been five years with Marcel as the self-appointed king of New Orleans. At the same time, Vincent has been there as well, working basically side by side with the other man in order to not only help keep him in check, but also help lead the witches. A sense of balance has been restored to the city and Marcel is basically unchallengeable. His bite is still deadly to the originals and with him being seemingly unstoppable, he is working on bringing in a peace to the city, while Vincent also works to keep Marcel honest.
Although the past five years has offered a sense of peace to the city, going forward things are about to change. With it being five years since Klaus was found guilty of his crimes against the supernatural community and imprisoned, there are all these vampires who are not sired to him anymore who want him killed for what he has done. However, this is The Originals and Klaus is a vital part of the story, which means Marcel is going to have deal with all of these vampires as they come to his city looking to challenge him over the decision to incarcerate, rather than kill the other man.
Beyond the city and the rule of Marcel and even Vincent, season four will also be about Klaus and his family. When season three ended, Klaus’ daughter Hope was still a baby, but now she is a child of seven. She has a personality and has essentially grown up without a father, but stories of him which make him seem like more of a mythical legend. Once these two find themselves face to face they will have to be essentially reintroduced to each other and for Klaus it will be about learning how to live with this new person his daughter has become.
Season four of The Originals will see a lot of the story focused on Hope, as much as it is the rest of the Mikaelsons. Whether it is about the powers that she has and learning to deal with them or bringing the Mikaelsons back to their former glory in some way, the series is moving forward in the new season with a new and interesting dynamic that will apparently give the story a fascinating feel that will be reminiscent of a true “New Orleans ghost story.”
