Tad Cummins, 50, a teacher from Tennessee is now on the state’s “Top 10 Most Wanted” list. According to state officials, Cummins kidnapped a 15-year-old student named Elizabeth Thomas, who attended the high school where he taught. Reportedly, Cummins abducted the teen on March 13. Police have Thomas listed as being in imminent danger, reports KTLA.
On Friday, Jill Cummins, Tad Cummins’ wife, made an emotional appeal to her husband during a press conference. She stated that she knew this was not who her husband was and pleaded with him to do the right thing, turn himself into authorities, and bring Beth home.
Tears threatened to escape her eyes as Jill Cummins stood next to her pastor and asked her husband to surrender himself to authorities. She told her husband that no matter how far this has already gone she would help him get through this. She told her husband that God had not abandoned him and wanted him to come home. Her plea came four days after an Amber alert was issued for Elizabeth Thomas, reports FOX News.
On Monday, Tennessee authorities said that a friend had dropped Thomas off at a restaurant in Columbia, which was not far from the high school that she attends. Cummins was seen pumping gas close to the restaurant.
Investigators from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have said they believe Thomas and Cummins were in Decatur, Alabama, on Monday afternoon. Investigators added that as far as they can tell neither Cummins or Thomas have any connections in Alabama, but officials refused to comment any further.
Cummins taught school at Culleoka, Tennessee’s Thomas high school. He was fired earlier this week. Officials state that Cummins was terminated after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The warrant charged him with sexual misconduct of a minor. The warrant was based on “alleged interaction’ between Cummins and Thomas, reports CNN.
Cummins has now been charged with aggravated kidnapping as well by the Maury County district attorney’s office. A reward has been offered for information that leads to his arrest.
Brent Cooper, the district attorney, stated that Thomas has had a difficult life and that she is in imminent danger because Cummins is armed and dangerous. He has two firearms in his possession. Authorities have released that Cummins could still be driving a 2015 Nissan Rouge with the Tennessee plate 976ZPTT.
