For fans of Days of Our Lives, there is some big news as Sami Brady is set to return to her home of Salem in the form of actress Alison Sweeney, who came in to play the role at the age of 16 back in 1993. In fact, from 1993 until 2014, the actress was a fixture on the long running NBC soap opera. Then she stepped back from the soap opera in order to work on other projects. Even while starring in Days of Our Lives, Alison Sweeney was also the host of the Biggest Loser, however, following her departure from the role of Sami Brady, the actress appeared in movies on The Hallmark Channel as part of The Irresistible Blueberry Farm and Murder, She Baked franchises.
According to a report from Deadline, the actress announced via a post on her Instagram account that she had some big news to share with her fans because she is actually heading back to Days of Our Lives. In the video that Alison Sweeney posted, she let the fans know that she was truly excited to be able to share that news “in person” and she was also extremely excited to be heading back to Salem. The actress told her fans that she would begin shooting on the series “in a couple of weeks.”
Beyond her Instagram post, the actress also shared the news of her return to Days of Our Lives with Soap Opera Digest, where she went into a bit more detail as to when she would be filming and how long she would be on set. She confirmed that she would start to film new episodes of the show as of May and into June and that she would be a part of the “show for an extended visit.”
When Alison Sweeney was originally on Days of Our Lives, she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. The nomination came in 2015, when she was nominated for the Drama Series category as Outstanding Lead Actress. In 2002, she also won a very special Fan Emmy Award in the category of America’s Favorite Villain.
Although the actress is only returning for a short stint on the soap opera, it will be an extended visit which will give fans who have missed Alison Sweeney as Sami Brady a chance to see her back in her villainous role. While Sami Brady may not always have been a villain of Salem, she has always been one of those characters who many would deem troubled, especially when it comes to her relationships. With the character having been gone for a few years, it will be interesting to see how she is brought back into the Salem fold and to see how her character interacts with the people she left behind.
