While production on Disney’s live-action take on their hit animated movie Mulan might not be set to begin until later in 2017, that does not mean there has not been plenty of speculation regarding what fans can expect to see in the film. Whether it is discussions about which actors and actresses will be a part of the movie, what the storyline for the film will entail or even if it will follow in the footsteps of the animated movie, as well as recent hit live-action film, Beauty and the Beast, and be musically focused, there has already been a lot of questions from fans as to what direction Mulan will ultimately take.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, at least some of the questions surrounding what is going on with the music in the movie has been answered by Niki Caro, the film’s director. It would seem that the final word on music being incorporated into the live-action version of Mulan is a definitive yes, there will in fact be music, unlike previous reports may have suggested. Niki Caro shared that their live-action version of the story will actually be based on both the original Disney animated classic, which of course featured plenty of music, as well as the “inspirational Chinese ballad.”
This means that the movie is going to be a hybrid of the original story, as well as the animated film. The director made it clear that the film is still in the process of being put together, which means that while there will be music, how much, as well as how it will be incorporated are still being determined. Right now, they are all still working on what role music will end up playing in the live-action Mulan, however, they know for a fact that music will be important in some way.
Beyond just talking about the musical action of the film, Niki Caro also made it clear that all negotiations regarding the project are still ongoing. In fact, even the cast for Mulan is still up in the air, with the project not “even close to coming together yet.” Right now, it seems that the live-action retelling of the Disney animated classic is still very much a fluid project. All this to say that for now at least, this is all the information that has been made available at this time and it is likely that this is all the information that they will have for a while to come.
Are you surprised that the director has shared there will be music incorporated into the live-action Mulan? Do you want the live-action film to be more like the Disney animated classic? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
