Ever since Dancing Baby Groot was introduced in the final scene of Guardians of the Galaxy, the character has been stealing the hearts of the fans. However, it would seem that in the sequel, Baby Groot, who is now mobile, is going to be stealing even more than just hearts according to Dave Bautista. The actor, who plays Drax the Destroyer, took part in an interview about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and made it clear that starring in scenes besides this new version of Groot is less than easy.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, while talking about starring in scenes with Baby Groot, Dave Bautista said that it can be difficult to compete with his cute costar, even if he is an animated character. Specifically, the actor said that whenever it comes time to “compete with cute little Baby Groot,” even if it is a scene in which one is actually pouring out their heart and giving it their all, “you know this little tree is going to steal the scene.”
Dave Bautista went on to say that the reality is that “it sucks,” because then no one is really paying any attention to anyone else in the scene but Baby Groot. The actor pointed out that, “All they’re seeing is Groot’s big eyes and his innocent look, and they’re like, ‘Awww.'”
While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is populated with any number of unique, interesting and colorful characters, including Rocket, the genetically modified raccoon and Drax, the tattooed warrior who does not understand metaphors, Dave Bautista is not wrong in declaring Baby Groot a scene stealer. With his squeaky voice and big eyes, the character has been garnering plenty of attention just from the movie posters, the TV spots and trailers. Even Chris Pratt has weighed in on the Baby Groot situation, calling the character adorable.
Even Chris Pratt has weighed in on the Baby Groot situation, calling the character adorable. Pratt went so far as to say that in this movie, Groot has a super cuteness, super strong, super baby feel. The thing is, he kills people.
While Dave Bautista and Chris Pratt may be correct in saying that Baby Groot is extremely adorable, it is fair to say that the other characters will also get their fair share of attention as well. Audiences will get the chance to decide if Baby Groot really is a scene stealer when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5.
