The new trailer for FOX’s mutant based TV show from the X-Men universe, The Gifted, has arrived and while the characters that fans have come to know and love may not be present, it is clear this is going to be an interesting tale of what comes next in the world of mutants versus humans. Right off the bat it becomes clear that not only is the series going to have plenty of action, but it will also be a drama about family, which will give it a much broader appeal.
For the most part, The Gifted trailer keeps the bigger picture of the story under wraps, however there are plenty of details for fans to pick out and discuss in terms of what they can expect to see in the show. Based on what viewers can see in the nearly three-minute trailer, it certainly does not seem like the relationship between mutants and other humans is particularly hopeful.
As The Gifted trailer begins, a woman can be seen being taken down by some type of government officer who calls her troubled, even as he says he is there to try to help her. Of course, in the very next shot it is made clear that she is in a plastic bag of some sort and they plan to implant her with something. Later in the trailer that very same man is determined to be the father of the family who finds themselves on the run from the very government he worked for when his own children turn out to be mutants.
The Gifted does not seem to shy away from this aspect of the story either, because someone actually points this out. This is a man who once tracked down mutants and imprisoned them and now he is on the run in order to protect his children who have proven to have their own special gifts. With both of his children possessing unique gifts, the two can be seen showing each other what it is they are capable of.
While the trailer for The Gifted seems to go a bit back and forth between before the family has to go on the run and after, it is made clear that the son has been the target of bullies in school which ultimately leads to him being discovered as a mutant. With the series looking much less hopeful than one might expect from an X-Men property, it seems as if the TV series is looking to shy away from the usual and go down a bit of a darker path in its own way.
