After years of talk and speculation as to whether or not there would be another Hellboy movie it looks like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel for fans who have been waiting to see more of the demonic superhero. While there will not be a third movie in the franchise starring Ron Perlman or directed by Guillermo del Toro, as the director has already made it clear the duo will not be moving forward with a proposed Hellboy 3, now word has broken that the story will be getting a reboot instead. While fans may be upset they will not be getting the third movie they have been clamoring for, a new movie in general is a happy thing.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter and Facebook, Mike Mignola has announced that a new movie is being worked on that will have no connection to the other two movies from del Toro and Perlman. Instead, this new movie will actually be an R-rated Hellboy and it will be directed by Neil Marshall of Game of Thrones.
Although Ron Perlman will no longer be playing the demonic superhero, it looks like a Stranger Things star might end up taking his place. David Harbour, who plays Chief Hopper on the series, is currently in talks to star as Hellboy in the reboot. While those were the only details that Mike Mignola would share with fans at this time via his post on Facebook, he did say there would be more news to come.
THR also added to his news by sharing that there is a working title for the reboot as well as who was writing the script. The working title for the reboot is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood and the writers of the current script are Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Andrew Cosby.
Although the news that there will not be a third movie starring Ron Perlman as the demonic superhero is sure to be a disappointment to many fans, the fact that there will be a new movie in general is certainly intriguing and interesting. With this being the first news of any kind regarding Hellboy being rebooted, it will most likely be years before the film makes it to theaters. However, there is no shortage of material to draw from in terms of the storylines and with the current talent that is attached to the project, it looks to be heading in the right direction.
