Lonzo Ball is setting things straight. There is a specific team that he wants to work out with, the Los Angeles Lakers. It remains to be seen if the Lakers will feel the same way.
They are the only team that Ball is saying he will work out with, according to ESPN. Ball may be hoping his showcase is enough to grab the Lakers attention and maybe even have them draft him. The Ball family is pitching hard to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lonzo’s father, LeVar Ball recently said, “That’s all we working out for is the Lakers.” He continued, “Just the Lakers. There’s nobody else that we need to work out for.” This may not be a last minute game plan from the Ball family either. It has been their plan all along.
Lonzo Ball told reporters earlier this week that is has been clear from the start. Ball’s destination is the Lakers. His father LeVar recently spoke on how big of an impact that his son could make on the Lakers.
LeVar Ball has a lot of faith in his son Lonzo, with the Lakers. As he tries to bring his son’s Lakers dream to life, he believes that if Ball is added to the Lakers team, he could even help them reach the postseason. Reaching the postseason is something Los Angeles has struggled with over their past few seasons.
The last time they competed in the playoffs was in their 2012-13 season. Even with Kobe Bryant on their team a year ago, he could not take the team to the postseason. Now that Bryant is retired, the Lakers are in need of a new star shooter at the very least.
As the Lakers try to rediscover their new identity and rebuild their team, Ball could potentially make a solid add to their team. It seems that Ball is very committed to only working out with Los Angeles.
Ball already skipped out on one work out with a team, the Boston Celtics. By skipping a workout with the team, it could have financial implications. There is a huge difference between the guarantee rookie wage scale contract of a No. 1 and No. 2 pick. It is slightly over $2.2 million. California has the highest taxes in the U.S. at over 13 percent, while MA is just over 5 percent.
As the Ball family pitches their case, a source with the Lakers is saying their considerations at a No. 2 are within range. They are reportedly considering, Markelle Fultz, Ball, De’Aaron Fox, Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum.
Los Angeles may be in need of a change to their team. They were a losing team for another consecutive season. They wrapped up their 16-17 campaign at the bottom of the West, as the 14th place team. They went just 26-56 on the year, with just a two game lead over the Suns.
Will the Los Angeles Lakers make a change this off-season? Will that change involve Ball? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
