It is official, Marshawn Lynch’s retirement will be coming to an end as he signed with the Oakland Raiders. After just a year out of the game, he will be returning. Lynch will not be playing for the Seattle Seahawks this time around.
Things will be different for Lynch and Seattle. Last season Seattle faced one of their first years without Lynch serving as their running back. Life without Lynch did not turn out to be so bad. Seattle did not have a losing campaign.
The Seahawks had the opposite, a winning campaign. They finished off the year as the top team of the NFC West, going 10-5-1. Now they are about to play their second year without Lynch. He will be playing for the Oakland Raiders.
Oakland may be hoping he can add the offense the team is in need of. Before Lynch could head to the Raiders, there was one problem they had to clear out. Seattle still owned the running back’s rights for his 2017 season. Oakland and Lynch were able to fix that problem easily.
Despite Lynch being out of play for over a year, there is still high confidence in him. Oakland Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie even said in a recent interview that he has no doubt Lynch will be a big contributor, according to NBC Sports.
He continued to say that the organization feels he has more than enough left in the tank to be a top running back once again in the league. With the potential for him to show the same skills that he showed in Seattle a couple years ago, the team is excited to have him and he is excited to be wearing the silver and black of the Oakland Raiders.
Before he was limited due to injuries in his 2015 season, Lynch was still competing a high level. He averaged more than 1,300 yards per season from 2011-14. He has the numbers and the track record to prove his ability.
Lynch is now 31-years-old making his comeback with a new team. Oakland is hoping he can help lead them to another strong year. Last season went well overall for the Raiders. They finished off the year as the second place team of the AFC West, tied with the Chiefs going 12-4. Unfortunately, their season came to a quick end when the Texans defeated them in the Wild Card Round.
Last season it is safe to say the Raiders had a good run, but it could have been better. They just needed one more talented presence on their team, and that problem could now be fixed with the addition of Lynch. He could be the force that Oakland needs to make a deep postseason run.
