Odell Beckham Jr of the New York Giants just earned a pay-day. His most recent pay-day is not by the Giants either. It is by somebody else. Beckham will be receiving a hill of cash by Nike.
Nike matched Adidas shoe deal offer to Beckham Jr, and he accepted. He just inked a huge deal with Nike. The Giants received signed a five-year deal worth $29 million, according to CBS Local. He will be paid nearly twice as much as any other player signed with Nike.
If certain heights are met, Odell Beckham Jr‘s deal with Nike could span over eight years, and reach the tune of $48 million. He will now be serving as the brand spokesman for Nike, and will have to do campaigns outside of football. His schedule may be getting even more busier.
His new deal will be destroying his prior deal with the Giants. Beckham’s first contract with New York paid him just over $10 million through four years. Performance wise, he turned out to be worth the fortune for the Giants. Nike may be hoping for the same results.
In three seasons in the NFL, Beckham has had a loud presence, and has made a good impression with the Giants. He has caught a total of 288 passes for 4,122 yards, and scored 35 touchdowns. The Giants have been known for their offense over recent years, and Beckham Jr has been a big part of that.
With Beckham Jr in the wide receiver slot for New York last season, they had a successful campaign. New York wrapped up the year as the second place team of the NFC East with a record of 11-5. The only team ahead of them were the 13-3 Dallas Cowboys. New York even had the credit of handing Dallas two of their only three losses on the year.
Unfortunately there was no Super Bowl appearance by the Giants last season. They did not make it that far, or even close. New York had their season ended in the Wild Card Round. The Green Bay Packers handed them a 13-38 loss, bringing their season to a stop.
After being left to 25 points unanswered for the Giants closed the books on their 2016 season. New York did not leave empty-handed though, they still accomplished more than many teams. They may have Beckham Jr to thank for that.
During the regular season, the wide receiving had a big impact for the Giants. Appearing in 16 games, he made 101 receptions, ran for 1,367 yards, and scored 10 touchdowns. It marked Beckham Jr’s third consecutive season in which he ran for over 1,300 yards, and reached for at least touchdowns. Those are numbers that the Giants may not have any complaints about to say the least.
Beckham’s recent contract with Nike may not be the first or last high-pay deal to go his way through his career. If he can keep on going at the pace he has, there will likely be more where that came from.
Will the Giants have a winning season next year? In his next deal with the Giants will there be another massive contract in store for Odell Beckham Jr? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
