All teams that have come across the Golden State Warriors path this off-season including the San Antonio Spurs have been met with trouble. The Warriors first opponent, the Portland Trail Blazers were unable to take the first lead of the series. Portland could not even win on one occasion against Golden State.
The Warriors swept them in four games. Their second round opponent, the Utah Jazz struggled in a similar way. Golden State took an early lead in Round 2, and did not look back once. The Jazz could also not produce a single win in four games against the Warriors.
Utah marked the second consecutive team to fall victim to the sweep by the Warriors. If the San Antonio Spurs were thinking that they could stop the Warriors ball from rolling, they were wrong. In the first game of the conference finals, San Antonio failed to take an early lead.
Instead, by the end of Game 1, the San Antonio Spurs were in the hole 0-1. In a close game, Golden State managed to defeated the Spurs 111-113, according to CBS Sports. As they hosted the Spurs, the Warriors did not give them a warm welcoming, they gave them a reality check.
This postseason, no team has been able to defeat the Warriors. Golden State has now won nine games in a row. The Spurs are hoping that they can be the team to bring their streak to an end. It may not be an easy thing to do.
Golden State has reached the finals in two consecutive seasons, and the only thing that stands in the way from them making the finals for a third year is the Spurs. The Spurs are the last line of defense from preventing that from happening.
If any team can do it, San Antonio might have what it takes. Their first two opponents of the playoffs were no short battles. The Spurs gave their opponents long series. San Antonio took the Grizzlies to six games, and then again the Rockets to six games.
They have a recent history of making their battles last long and that could continue against the Warriors. Right now the Spurs are not in the best position, as they are playing catch up. They have to come up with a win soon. If they can defeat the Warriors in Game 2, the series will be even.
In order to walk away with a win in Game 2, the Spurs need to learn from their mistakes. San Antonio needs to do a better job maintaining their lead in their next meet against Golden State. They led by 20 points in one part of the game, but they could not hold it.
Can the San Antonio Spurs bounce back? Will the Spurs be the first team to beat the Warriors this postseason? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
