At this point there have been multiple actors who have brought the character of Spider-Man to life, with the newest actor being Tom Holland. In Captain America: Civil War, the actor was introduced for the first time as the new Spider-Man and with his solo movie coming soon, it makes sense that people are looking forward to even more movies, especially with plans already in place for the solo movie’s sequel.
Over the years, the comics have shown Spider-Man move beyond his high school days and now in a new interview, it would appear that Tom Holland likes the idea of potentially exploring the character’s future. According to a report from Cinema Blend, the actor is looking beyond Peter Parker’s time in high school, even though the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to take place during the character’s sophomore year in school.
In the interview, Tom Holland reminded everyone that Peter Parker is a character who has been seen in the comic books going from a 15-year-old high school student to a 35-year-old man with his very own business. It is these comic stories that have inspired the actor and he said that he has an idea for what could be done moving forward and it is something that he would really like to do. Specifically, the actor said that he took his idea to the higher powers and it has been “taken into the boardroom.”
Tom Holland feels it would be “cool” if it ends up working out because this would ultimately mean that he “would be Spider-Man for a very long time.” Essentially, the actor is proposing that he could play the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man for at least the next 20 years, which is certainly unprecedented.
If the MCU and the studio at large end up agreeing with the actor, it could mean finally seeing Spider-Man as an adult and really moving on from his time as a high school student. This would be a first for the character in the movies, as he has primarily been shown as a student and the movies have never really explored his later years as a superhero.
With Tom Holland only being a few years older than the character he is portraying, this might be the right time for this to happen because he really could show the evolution of the character from a student to a businessman. Plus, the actor could legitimately play a 30-year-old version of Spider-Man down the road after having also portrayed him as a student. While this may just be a pipe dream, it is certainly something that fans of the comics might be interested in seeing come to pass. Now it is up to the MCU and the studio to decide if the actor’s idea has enough merit to become a reality.
