A Connecticut special education teacher, who is also a married mom, was charged on Tuesday with the sexual assault of one of her students, an 18-year-old male. She has admitted to the police that she had sex with him “a handful of times” in her car. After her arrest, Laura Ramos, 31, resigned from her teaching position at Central High, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. FOX News reported that Ramos was charged by the police with second-degree sexual assault, and then destroying evidence and denying that the acts had occurred.
The police learned about the teacher’s alleged sexual assault of the special education student after a second student, referred to in court documents as “witness 1,” had informed school officials about the multiple sexual encounters that Ramos allegedly engaged in with the 18-year-old male student. The informant stated that Ramos had initially sent text messages to him, acting in the role of a teacher helping one of her students.
According to FOX31 Denver, Ramos sent the student who told on her a text about two weeks ago. Court documents allege the student informant said that he had seen Ramos and the 18-year-old teen flirting and making eyes at each other. He stated to detectives that he had never heard Ramos using a name, but he believed the student she was telling about was an 18-year-old special education student at the high school who was a junior.
The student who told on Ramos said that she started to tell him confidential information about her love life. She told him this confidential information about a month to six weeks ago.
She allegedly told the student who told on her that her “guy” or “man” did not want to have a sexual relationship with her. Ramos allegedly asked the informer if he would buy pot for her and her “man.” He claimed she would also send him content that was not sexually appropriate.
Before the police approached Ramos, to confront her and question her about the alleged sexual assault of the special education student, they took screenshots of texts Ramos had sent to the student who was acting as an informant. At first, Ramos denied that she had ever had a sexual relationship with the 18-year-old teen, though she said they both had “a close relationship.”
The second time the police interviewed Ramos, the high school teacher admitted she had sex with the 18-year-old student in her car multiple times. The Washington Post reported that she said their sexual relationship started on December 23, 2016, and it was over sometime in April 2017.
Ramos deleted the texts she had sent the teen, and told the police she had asked him to deny they had ever had a sexual relationship. When the police requested Ramos to turn over her cellphone to them, she replied that they would not “be happy” with what they found on her phone. On June 20, Ramos gave the high school her letter of resignation. The newspaper the Connecticut Post reported that officials at Central High School said that the school district had already begun proceedings to terminate Ramos.
Connecticut Special Education teacher, Laura Ramos, resigned after the police arrested her for second-degree sexual assault. They have accused her of having multiple sexual encounters with one of her students, 18, in her car, from December 23, 2016 to last April. On June 9, Ramos was placed on administrative leave by the school district. Ramos’ lawyer stated that his client should be presumed to be innocent. Ramos is scheduled to appear in court sometime “next week.”
