Lonzo Ball started pitching his case to the Los Angeles Lakers over a month ago. His dad LeVar stood behind him. All his hard work to put word out there might have finally paid off.
As the NBA Draft kicked off on Thursday, Lonzo Ball went quickly. He was the second overall pick of the 2017 draft, reported the Los Angeles Times. The team that picked him was just who he had in mind.
Ball made it clear about what he saw in his future. He envisioned himself playing for the Lakers. He even went as far to say that he would only play for Los Angeles. He would not play for any other team.
It does not look like he will have to play for another team. His Lakers dreams have officially came to life. He will be playing for the Lakers. The expectations for Ball are already sky-high.
Magic Johnson referred to Lonzo Ball as the new face of the Lakers. The addition of Ball might not come as a shocking move. He got the opportunity to workout with the team over the off-season. Ball let it be known that he liked what he saw out of the Lakers. Now Los Angeles has finally responded to his call for a team.
The Lakers appear to of liked what they saw out of the second overall pick. Johnson said much more than that Ball is the new face of the team. He even said he expects to see Ball’s jersey retired one day. As Ball wrapped up his introduction to the Lakers, Johnson made one final request.
The Lakers president of basketball operations joked, telling the new Laker to leave him a record or two. “Don’t break all my records.” Ball even got the chance to put in a few words of his own. He spoke on the high expectations, the he has lived with his whole life. He went on to say that he has got use to the pressure and that he is coming to the Lakers with a winning attitude.
Th 19-year-old launched his Lakers career on Friday. Los Angeles may be hoping that he can be apart of the team’s transformation and help carry the team into a new direction. He has raised the most hype potentially since the Kobe Bryant ERA.
Bryant left the game on a high note, scoring 60 points in the final game of his career. He has been gone from the game for less than two years, but it might feel like a life time for the Lakers. His numbers winded down towards the late years of his career but he was still a large presence on the court.
Since he retired, there has been a large void on the Lakers roster. Ball could fill in that void. He could raise the intensity of the game once again for the Lakers.
Can Lonzo Ball provide a winning season for the Lakers? Will Ball live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
