Yesterday David Price took the mound for the Boston Red Sox in their final game of their road trip series against the New York Yankees. It did not end well for Price. Thursday’s game revealed that Price’s struggles are still real.
New York’s offense pummeled price. As Boston was in a search of rebounding from their Wednesday night loss, they were not able to complete that task. As Boston was held scoreless on Wednesday 8-0, they left more runs unanswered for.
The Red Sox suffered their second consecutive loss as they were defeated 9-1. They left eight runs unanswered to for the second game in a row. It was a rough game for Price to say the least.
Following the game, Price stated, ”This is baseball.” He went on to say that stuff can just happen, and it will happen to the best players. Tonight, he was the one that it happened to. Since signing a $200 mill deal with the Red Sox, Price has had a few road bumps. The New York Yankees particularly have not shown Price’s strengths. Against New York, since signing his massive deal, he is just 1-4, posting a 8.31 ERA, according to Fox Sports.
The numbers do not lie. Price has the numbers, just not good ones. On the other hand it was a job well done by their starter Michael Pineda. He pitched seven brilliant innings. New York ended the three game series on a high note, outscoring the Red Sox 21-6. The star of the game for the Yankees was Gary Sanchez. It was a big game for Sanchez.
Gary Sanchez of the New York Yankees had a loud second half last season. He showed off his ability to the baseball into the stands. His 2017 season has been the opposite of loud. He has not had the same amount of pop to his swing.
In addition to not hitting for power, Sanchez was not connecting with the ball well. In yesterday’s game that all changed. Sanchez decided to be good again. He slugged a pair of home-runs for the Yankees.
This series was crucial for the Red Sox. If they succeeded, they would have a shot at taking the lead of the AL East. They did not improve to first place to say the least. Instead of cutting the Yankees lead, Boston expanded their lead.
New York remains the first place team of the AL East, with a record of 34-23. As the second place team of the division, Boston is going 32-27 on the year. After exiting their series against the Red Sox, the Yankees now hold a three-game lead of the AL East. Dating back to their Toronto series, New York has won three of their past five. Now they will be hosting the Orioles tonight.
Can the New York Yankees hold first place? Will New York expand their lead by the end of their series against Baltimore? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
