KABC-TV reported that the police in Asheville, North Carolina, have charged Braswell with committing “misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon” for her act of retaliation against Raines. In an interview with News 13, Braswell said that Raines had her purse and “took off,” so she “took off after him.”
According to CBS affiliate, WFMY News 2, police were called to the Walmart in east Asheville at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The police report stated that Braswell’s SUV had been “unattended” and “unsecured,” when Raines allegedly searched through it and took her purse.

Raines was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries after Christine Braswell plowed into him with her SUV, which was captured on the Walmart’s CCTV footage. The Washington Post reported that Braswell accelerated her SUV and drove across several parking spaces in order to strike Raines in the back with her vehicle and run him over. The alleged thief was charged by the police in Asheville, North Carolina with misdemeanor damage to property, larceny and “felony breaking and entering.”
