It looks like the Transformers franchise is losing another one of its stars now that it seems Mark Wahlberg is leaving the series after Transformers: The Last Knight. While the franchise is set to expand and change in a number of ways moving forward, they will also have to deal with some more big losses as well. Besides the news that Mark Wahlberg will be leaving the Transformers family, the film series will also be losing its long time director, Michael Bay.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, it seems that there are a number of changes happening within the franchise moving forward. Not only is The Last Knight going to introduce some fascinating mythology aspects to the series that will end up being fundamental to the story moving forward, but the overall expansion of the universe will mean new cast members. However, there will also be some losses to deal with as well.
As with any new additions, that means that previous players will be exiting and much like the Transformers lost their previous stars, such as Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, now they will have to deal with Mark Wahlberg saying goodbye to his role as Cade Yeager. In fact, it was only recently that the actor admitted that he would not be back after The Last Knight.
After making an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Wahlberg shared that, “It’s the last one so I get my life back!” Clearly the actor is not in any way upset by his departure from the Transformers franchise and is instead looking to take a break from these blockbuster style movies. Unless the studio chooses to recast the character of Cade Yeager after Mark Wahlberg departs, it sounds as if the character will simply be retiring from his work with the autobots and of course the government.
While the actor may be happy to be leaving the series, that does not mean he did not enjoy his time on both Age of Extinction and The Last Knight. After having to spend five months to get into shape for The last Knight one can not really blame Mark Wahlberg for his decision to step back and let someone else take the spotlight in the Transformers franchise. With the actor making the decision to leave the series it also gives him more time to focus on some of his smaller movies, such as the Daddy’s Home series.
What do you think of the actor choosing to leave the Transformers franchise? Who would you want to see take his place? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
