Wildway LLC has issued a recall for select varieties of grain-free granola products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was initiated after one of the company’s suppliers informed them that an ingredient used in their grain-free granola products might be contaminated, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that causes an infection called listeriosis. People usually become infected after they have eaten food that is contaminated with the bacterium. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1,600 people are infected with listeriosis every year, of which roughly 260 die.
Healthy people typically suffer short-term symptoms such as a severe headache, high fever, abdominal pain, nausea, stiffness, and diarrhea. However, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those who have compromised immune systems, may suffer a serious and in some cases fatal infection.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products. However, out of an abundance of caution, Wildway is recalling the following lots of grain-free granola products.
Consumers who have purchased these items are encouraged not to consume them. Instead, the product(s) should be returned to the original place of purchase for a full refund. Those who have additional questions should contact Wildway’s Customer Care by calling 844-617-8240 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
