November 8, 2019 is the release date for the 25th official James Bond film. So far, the film does not have a title yet, nor a director, and it is not clear if Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007.
The films producers announced on Monday that the follow-up to SPECTRE, which was released in 2015, would be hitting theaters in 28 months. And that is all they had to say. There were no details on exactly what the plot will be, and no word if Daniel Craig will pick up the keys to the Aston Martin for a fifth go as the worlds favorite super spy.
So, what is known about the next film? Other than the fact that Robert Wade and Neal Purvis will write the screenplay. They are the same pair that wrote the last two Pierce Brosnan films, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, plus the first four Craig films, Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and SPECTRE. Having the pair return is key to keeping the current storyline moving.
Following SPECTRE, Craig was not thrilled about the idea of portraying James Bond for a fifth time. He said something about rather slashing his wrists than to take on the role again. However, it has been hinted at that he will come back for the 25th film. If he did decide to step down, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Jamie Bell and Tom Hiddleston have been rumored replacements for the role.
It appears that Craig is going to play the role, despite official confirmation. Both The New York Times and the British press reported that Craig returning for the next 007 film is secured. The British press is also reporting that Adele will return to sing the theme once again. The Oscar-winning singer performed the theme for Skyfall.
One thing pointing to Craig returning could be the fact that Sam Mendes is not. Mendes directed both Skyfall and SPECTRE, but announced he will not return to the Bond family. He stated that he wanted to tell stories with new characters, and while he loved his time with the Bond franchise, it was time for someone else to take over the directors chair.
Most fans want Craig to return to the role of James Bond. Compared to the previous actors, along with the storylines, Craig’s portrayal of 007 was much darker and much more gritty. It followed the same line as Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and the new DC universe storylines, which instead of filled with costume goofiness, takes a much darker look at the world of super heroes.
What do you think? Will Daniel Craig return as James Bond for the 25th 007 film? Share your thoughts in the comments below. And before anyone comments, the original Casino Royal with David Niven and Sean Connery’s Never Say Never Again are unofficial Bond films, and do not have anything to do with the ongoing Bond franchise.
