The Mayor of Seattle, Ed Murray, resigned on Tuesday, just hours after the city leader was hit with another sexual abuse allegation. The embattled politician has been hit with a number of allegations lately.
A Democrat, Murry is the first openly gay mayor of Seattle. He said his resignation was effective 5:00 p.m. local time. He left the office so the scandal would not overtake what the mayor needs to do.
His cousin, in an interview with the Seattle Times, alleged the abuse that led to the mayor’s announcement. The cousin is the fifth person to come forward and accuse the mayor publicly about child abuse allegations. The first of such allegations were brought up against the mayor in April.
Ed Murry has denied all the allegations. He previously stated that he believed the allegations were an effort to stop the mayors support of immigrant and LGBTQ rights and his progressive agenda.
